The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he came to Abuja to demonstrate that meaningful development can be achieved through political will, hard work and proper planning.
Wike stated this on Wednesday during his monthly media parley in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while speaking on the infrastructure projects being undertaken by the FCT Administration.
The minister said his administration had focused on delivering completed projects rather than merely awarding contracts, adding that the approach had changed the pace of infrastructure development in the territory.
“Look, I came to the FCT to prove a point that it’s not even difficult if you want to work, and, whether you agree or not, we have been able to change that narrative,” he said.
Wike attributed the progress recorded in the FCT to what he described as clear direction, prioritisation and commitment to project delivery.
He also cited his previous public service experience, saying his performance in various political and government positions had prepared him for the responsibilities of managing the FCT.
The minister recalled his tenure as chairman of a local government council, saying his record in project delivery remained unmatched.
“Nobody has beaten that record,” he said.
Wike also recalled his tenure as Minister of State for Education, saying his performance during the period earned him recognition.
“People thought I was the main minister. My record was clear,” he said.
He further referred to his tenure as governor of Rivers State, where he said his administration implemented several infrastructure projects despite political challenges.
The minister said he had brought the same approach to the administration of the FCT, with emphasis on the completion and commissioning of infrastructure projects across the territory.
Wike said the performance of the FCT Administration should be assessed based on the impact of completed projects on residents rather than political rhetoric.
He said his greatest satisfaction would come from seeing Abuja continue to develop and witnessing the benefits of the projects to residents.
