The Borno State Collation Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University Wukari, Professor Jude Rabo, has announced that collation will continue on Monday, 27th of February 2023 at 10am local time.

Out of the 27 Local Government Areas LGAs of the state, only 3; Magumeri, Kaga and Mafa LGA turned in their results.

The collation process started late at 4pm local time on Sunday instead of 1pm as scheduled.

The delay was caused by the absence of various party’s representatives.

Result of Gubio LGA was returned due to the differences between the number of accredited voters and the number of total votes cast.

The collation officer asked for a reconciliation of the result before it would be accepted and announced.

Although there were challenges in transmitting the results through the INEC result Viewing Portal, IREVs, some election observers present at the centre commended the process, saying the results being read are based on what happened at the LGA level.

An observer, Mu’azu Abubakar Sadiq said “some of the issues we have observed is with the IREVs, we have not seen the result being uploaded at the polling units which have been read here at the collation centres. We have seen the inability of the polling officers to upload the results at the polling unit as mentioned in the guideline by INEC.”

Mohammed Bukar Kolo, an official of the National Orientation Agency lauded the effort of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, being the first time of using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS and IREVs, the challenges faced were expected as the process was still a work in progress.

“The general conduct of the election was peaceful. Although there were challenges with the BVAS, INEC intervened and took precautionary measures. Where voting started late because of challenges with the BVAS, INEC extended it to the next day. In anything you are starting new, there are always challenges,” Bukar Kolo explained.
