Nigerian featherweight boxer Elizabeth Oshoba says that she is fully ready for her Commonwealth title eliminator bout on March 10.

Oshoba is scheduled to face 31-year-old Kirsty Hill at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester, United Kingdom.

While speaking to The PUNCH, the 23-year-old said she was fully prepared for the encounter and wants a win to qualify for the title fights.

“I am fully prepared to face my opponent, and I pray God crown my efforts with a win on Friday.

“I am focused 100 per cent to win this bout because this is an elimination fight to get the commonwealth titles and it is always my aim to win more,” she said.

Oshoba, who fights under Property Sports management, believes she can get the Commonwealth title.

“My aim is to get the title and also win as many titles as I can. By the grace of God, I will be able to avoid injuries,” she said.

Interested in many sports, especially football and table tennis, Oshoba admits she was reluctant at first to try boxing.

“When I was around 12, my brother had the idea for me to box, but I wasn’t so excited, I didn’t know much about boxing and didn’t even know girls could do it. It seemed very risky.

“It is not that I was not interested, but you know the fear girls have. They don’t want anything to happen to their fresh faces, that’s why I was a bit scared at first. But I am a lover of sports right from my childhood and I love to do sports, but I did not even think of boxing then,” Oshoba told reporters.

In the end, Oshoba gave in to her brother and went to the local gym, and fell in love with the sport.

“There were other female boxers there, which encouraged me, and I improved quickly although the gym was very basic,” she added.
