Women Urged To Strive For Leadership Positions

Nigerian Women have been advised to train and improve themselves for political and leadership roles.

The Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Government and governorship aspirant, Jamiu Asuku gave the advice at a programme held to mark the 2023 International Women’s Day.

The event was organised by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Women’s Affairs, Mrs Asmau Kabir in collaboration with other women professional bodies in Kogi State.

He said; “women should be supported in the society to contribute positively to the growth of the nation.”

On the theme of the event; ”Embrace For Equity, Jamiu said; ”Women deserve equity in our society and we must be careful not to mix equality with equity.

“Information is power. I want to sincerely appreciate the women in this world and also say I don’t envy you at all considering the challenges and the responsibilities nature has saddled upon women of the universe. I am a product of a woman and I belong to women and today I have women partners.”

During the event, Mrs Funke Eseyin a professional woman with the United Bank for Africa, UBA, admonished women to always seek equity in all they do.

She said; “women should let their voices be heard and do away with all forms of bias and stereotypes that can hinder their growth.”

The Head of Kogi State Civil Service, Mrs Hannah Odiho said that “more women are needed to take up leadership positions especially at the federal level so women should never be discouraged because opportunities abound for them.”

She called on leaders in the country to take the 35% affirmative action for women seriously “because we have a lot to offer, we have what it takes to run this country well to make it a better.’

The Chief Organiser of the event, Asmau Gogo called the attention of women to self-love, advising them to do all it takes to guide their mental health, eat healthy and stay fit for their general well-being.

Every March 8 is International Women’s Day and women are celebrated globally.
