NDE/NDLEA Collaborate On Improving Youth Productivity In Ebonyi State

The National Directorate of Employment NDE is collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA in the area of improving the economic growth of unemployed Ebonyi State youths and women through sensitisation against the dangers of hard drugs and drug abuse.

The collaboration is to sensitize the youths on the dangers posed by narcotic drugs stunting the economic growth of the State.

The Director-General, NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu said this during the flag-off ceremony of the Community Based Training Scheme CBTs of the Vocational Skills Department, held at Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital.

The DG who was represented by the NDE State Coordinator Pastor Don Anaba said “the Community-Based Training Scheme CBTs is a vocational skill training scheme used by NDE to impact modern vocational skills on unemployed youths and women in our society to make them employable and self-reliant.

Today, a total of 26 unemployed youths and women, two from each of the 13 Local Government Areas of the State are receiving relevant training for successful vocation skills in over six trending skills including computer operation, GSM repair, fashion designing, hairdressing, gele and turban making, and shoe works,” Anaba said.

He said skills have impacted unemployed youths and women on vocational skills acquisition, small-scale enterprises and special public works programs.

The Director of Vocational Skills Development, Isa Abdul, represented by the Senior Vocational Skills Development Officer, Mrs Ogbaga Agnes urged the participants to avail themselves of the opportunity offered to them by the Nigerian Government through the NDE.

The NDE Head of Department HOD, Vocational Skills Development, Mr Ananaba Obioha encouraged both the trainers and the trainees to take the program seriously.

 

Fighting drug abuse

On his part, the NDLEA State Commandant, Uche Iyke, represented by the Assistant Commander Narcotics, Mr Eropa Godwin advised all Nigerian youths to eschew drug abuse to make a good future for themselves by making good use of the NDE training.

He called on all to join hands in the fight against drug abuse.

Two of the beneficiaries, Mr Okeh Kelechi and Chukwu Nneamak thanked NDE for the opportunity given to them to actualise their dreams.
