Voting has commenced in Wukari local government area of Taraba State North East Nigeria amidst low voter turnout in most of the polling units.
In Center primary school polling unit in Wukari, voting process commenced as early as 8:am, but party agents lamented the low turnout of voters compared to the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.
A party agent who pleaded anonymity noted that the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Taraba State may experience voter apathy.
“By this time during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, this polling unit was filled, with over 80 per cent registered voters queuing to vote, but we are surprised that the voters are still yet to turn out to exercise their franchise, however, we expect that more voters may turn out.
“We also believe that most voters were not happy about the outcome of the last elections hence their apathy to the voting process”.
Some of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC officials at the polling units who spoke to our correspondent confirmed that the process began smoothly with all the BVAS machine working effectively.
