The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is training students of the department of computer science, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), on modern warfare using Information Communication Technology (ICT)
Speaking after the lecture at the NCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), of the NCC Professor Umar Danbatta said modern warfare is won without physical combat.
According to Danbatta, they are investing a in modern communication warfare to be able to maintain, sustain peace and combat external aggression.
“The ultimate training, we have given our officers and gentleman in the military: is modern warfare technique. And this technique does not rely on physical combat anymore.
“You don’t even come close to each other; the war is normally won without exchanging a simple blow. The war is normally won, safely in the command and control centres.
“like I said, the combat readiness strategy has been implemented, locating where the enemy is, and giving instructions to the Air Force to do the damage that will contain the threats posed by them. I’m not a military man. But I think what we’re seeing increasingly is this deployment of items of electronic equipment, to fight the war.” He explained
The EVC emphasised that our electronic combat readiness must be very high standards “And that is why I said, our state of electronic combat readiness must be the highest for those who want to win the fight against security, against external aggression, against the maintenance and sustenance of peace within this country.”
He encouraged the military students to come up with softwares that will aid the operations of the military.
“You also encouraged them to come up with a software that can help some of these programmes.”
In addition he said, “We normally endow professional chairs I’m going for professorial chairs in higher institutions of learning of which the Nigerian Defence Academy is one, we give interventions, such institutions. And we engage such institutions in order to find what else can we do in order to ensure they deliver on the important mandate given to them to train minds.”
Speaking earlier on the training and collaboration Danbatta said,
“As you this is being implemented in order to ensure attainment of desired objectives and the desired objective is to be able to engage and collaborate with different institutions of government.
“This agencies like the institutions of higher learning, so on and so forth. So that we can be able to together agree on the direction that we should follow to move this important agency and take it to greater heights.
“Because we cannot just sit inside the NCC by ourselves, we must engage with these critical stakeholders of this communities. In order to listen to them, explain to them what we’re doing.”
According to Danbatta by so doing get a feedback that will in turn enhance the journey we are undertaking deliberately, in order to improve the quality of service that is being provided by mobile network operators.
“To ensure optimum utilisation of resources like spectrums, ensure we attract the right amount of investment into the sector for the provision of more qualitative, efficient services.”
The Head of Department (HoD) Computer Science Department NDA, Dr. Abraham Evwiekpaefe, said that they were there to balance theories.
“We are here for a site visit for the cadets to get first hand knowledge of the infrastructure to ensure a balance between the theory different products of operation. This is part of the requirements for students on Industry training.”
He appreciated the NCC for its contribution to the NDA in terms of capacity building and the provision of one year internet network for use by the institution and called for more collaborations between the agencies.
Danbatta also urged Students of the Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA to develop soft wares that will aid the operations of the military and enhance cyber security when the Students were on an Educational Visit to the NCC Headquarters in Abuja.

“I also encourage them to come up with a software that can help some of these programmes. We engage such institutions in order to find what else we can do in order to ensure they deliver on the important mandate given to them to train minds.
“And for you young minds I am looking forward to one day that bring up implementation plan that will place this country among the leading countries to with the best electronic readiness combat team.“

The Professor noted that collaboration with other organizations is one of the five points agenda mission of the Commission which is being implemented to ensure the attainment of desired objectives and the desired objective to be able to engage and collaborate with different institutions of government.
