Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has charged Commanders to monitor the behaviour of personnel deployed for operations across the country

General Yahaya who stated this at the end of the 2023 Chief of Army Staff First Quarter Conference in Abuja, said there was no feat that the Nigerian Army could not accomplish

“I charge all Commanders to always view seriously the issue of conduct of personnel, especially during operations, as a command responsibility, relevant commanders at various levels must monitor closely the behaviour of personnel deployed for all operations and appropriately reward and sanction personnel as necessary.

He applauded all participants for the insightful contributions which have led to incisive deliberations and decisions during the Conference.

The COAS said the contributions by the participants are products of critical thinking which gives hope of bequeathing a better Nigerian Army to the next generation.

“The challenges and recommendations highlighted during discussions have been noted and deliberate efforts will be in place to address them. I urge all Commanders to sensitize troops on all the decisions taken during this Conference. I wish to once again emphasize that Commanders at all levels must strive to improve on our recorded achievements.

The Army Chief noted that the current strategies deployed by the troops which encouraged the terrorists and their families to surrender for deradicalization and rehabilitation is quite commendable

He, therefore, urged field commanders to consolidate these efforts to sustain the achievements and totally eradicate terrorism and other nefarious activities from our beloved nation.

” I enjoin you to make deliberate efforts to awaken the consciousness of adherence to basic tenets of tactics and field craft. You must always ensure thorough and detailed briefings and de-briefings of troops before and after any operation. Commanding Officers must take full responsibility for their units and always apply their initiatives in taking charge of their units.

He further urged Nigerians to continue to support the Army as it works tirelessly, in conjunction with other Services and security agencies to ensure the security of lives and properties.

The COAS expressed appreciation to the media for the professional coverage during the conference and urge them to continue with the good work of projecting the image of the Nigerian Army to the good people of Nigeria and the world at large.
