Edo 2020: Gombe Governor warns contingent against drugs
The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has warned the state’s contingent to stay away from drugs at the forthcoming Edo 2020 National Sports Festival in Benin City.
Governor Yahaya stated this on Monday, during his farewell address to the 78-man contingent representing the state at the sports festival.
He said the state would not accept any attempt to manipulate the competition by using any form of enhancement.
He said, “By estimation, you should have been more than this going to Benin but the coronavirus reduced the resources everywhere. So, it has reduced the number of contingents expected in Edo State.
“For the few going, please do it with your own effort; self confidence is the first psychological first in winning a war. Don’t believe in anything that will induce you because that will fail you. I urge you to go and represent the state with strength and ability.
“Our tenure is that of transparency, do the best you can, we will appreciate you coming last without drugs than coming first with drugs.”
The Governor was represented at the event by his Deputy, Dr. Manassah Jatau,
Also, the Chairman, Gombe State Sports Commission, Adamu Soye, said the state would participate in 11 events.
