Anambra Independent Media Support Group,AIMSG has grilled the Chairmanship Aspirants of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in a Media debate in Awka, Anambra State.
Responding during the debate, the aspirants led by Barrister Ifeatu Obiokoye, said the problem of party membership is the over dependency on government appointments noting that there should be a new way of fine tunning the party reward system after election.
“Our party has come of age and after every general elections people expect political appointments but this cannot go round hence the need for the establishment of a welfare scheme through the use of cooperative societies where party faithfuls would be given the opportunity to execute small scale projects through which the members and the party would be funded,” Obiokoye stated.
The aspirants further promised to facilitate the return of defected party members back to the party noting that the effects of the Labour Party movement in the last general election is a pointer to the fact that APGA needs urgent and far reaching plans to retain it’s position as the third largest political party in the country.
Speaking earlier, the Director General of Anambra Independent Media Support Group ,AIMSG, and the Convener of the debate,Dr. Harris Chuma Odili, said, “the exalted position of state Party Chairman, Anambra chapter is a reality that Anambra is the spiritual, social, economic and political home of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. “It is therefore expedient to assume that this office is one that exudes great influence”.
“The task before APGA as a party is quite huge, and it requires a methodical personality to harness the potential within the party to move it forward”.
The judges were the vice Chairman NUJ Council, Southeast, Comrade Emma Ifeshinachi, Comrade Chika Nnabuife, Comrade Okechukwu Maduforo.
Meanwhile, seven out of the sixteen aspirants contesting for the Chairmanship position, attended the debate.
The position was zoned to Anambra Central Senatorial District, and the new state chairman will emerge on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 during the APGA State Congress.
