Europa League: Samuel Chukwueze Dazzles as Villarreal Advances

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze delivered another impressive display in the Europa League as his assist helped Villarreal advance to the semifinals after a 2-1 victory against Dinamo Zagreb at the Estadio de la Ceramica, progressing 3-1 on aggregate.

Chukwueze, 21, was handed a starting role in the encounter, forming a three-man attack for the Yellow Submarine along with Paco Alcacer and Gerard Moreno. Villarreal dominated the first half of the game and came close to opening the scoring a number of times before eventually breaking the deadlock in the 36th minute.

Chukwueze found Alcacer with a lovely pass and the striker controlled the ball before firing his shot into the back of the net past Dinamo goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

The hosts continued to dominate the game, creating numerous chances as Dinamo Zagreb struggled to contain the Yellow submarines.

Moments before the half-time break, Moreno doubled the lead for Villarreal with a well-taken effort after pouncing on a loose ball.

Chukwueze could have scored a third for Villarreal shortly after the break, but his shot from outside the box failed to find the target.

Dinamo Zagreb made several attempts to try and reduce the deficit after the restart of the second half. Damir Krznar’s men pulled one back in the 74th minute through Mislav Orsic after he was set up by Bruno Petkovic.

However, Villarreal managed to hold on to its lead to secure the victory which ensured they advance into the semi-finals.
