The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has led a delegation of APC leaders on consultations with Muslim clerics across parts of Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The consultations, which began in Jos, Plateau State, took the delegation to Kano, Kaduna and Bauchi, where Yari and his team met with Muslim scholars and leaders of the Izala, Tijjaniyya, Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS) and Qadiriyya movements.
The meetings formed part of consultations with faith-based stakeholders on issues of national importance and the APC’s campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
The delegation included former Kano State Governor and APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Kebbi State Governor, Senator Adamu Aliero; Senator Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura; APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru; and former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Others were James Abiodun Faleke and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase.
In Jos, Yari and members of the delegation were received by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, Chairman of the Council of Ulama of JIBWIS.
The delegation also met Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi, Khalifa of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Zawiya, in Bauchi.
Sheikh Ibrahim prayed for President Bola Tinubu and called for sustained dialogue between government and religious communities, stressing that engagement should not be limited to election periods.
In Kaduna, Yari held discussions with Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, National Chairman of a JIBWIS faction, on security, economic hardship and ways of strengthening mutual trust among communities across ethnic and religious lines.
Bala Lau commended Yari for reaching out to religious leaders and urged political leaders at all levels to listen more to citizens and communicate with them sincerely.
The consultations ended in Kano, where Yari met Sheikh Qaribullahi Nasiru Kabara, leader of the Qadiriyya movement.
Kabara offered prayers for peace in Nigeria and the success of the campaign council’s activities.
He also urged the delegation to take the message of unity to communities across the country.
