Insecurity: House of Representatives reaffirms collaboration with Police Force

The Speaker House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila says the House would continue to work in partnership with the Police Force to achieve a safer Nigeria in line with the 9th Assembly Legislative Agenda.

Speaking while receiving the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali at the National Assembly, Mr Gbajabiamila assured the Police team of continuous funding of its operations and urged them to always do a proper needs assessment before presenting its annual budgets to the parliament.

He congratulated the Acting IGP on his appointment and extolled his personality noting that he has come into his new position with a great deal of accomplishments.

The Speaker who expressed worried over the prevailing security situation in the country urged the Police hierarchy to do more work to stem the tide of the insecurity.

The Acting IGP who described the visit as a familiarization visit said that they are at the House to appreciate the efforts of the House in ensuring that the nation is bequeathed with a reliable and viable Police Force.

The Police boss also said that the visit was to appreciate the House leadership on the passage of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 and expressed optimism of continuous collaboration with the lawmakers.

He said: We are aware that the House is promoting peace and unity in Nigeria. We are here to appreciate what the House is doing to promote the Police especially the passage of the Police Act 2020,

The passage of the Police Act by the Hose is going to enable smooth operations of the Police in line with the dictates of the modern days.” 

Some notable senior Police officers that accompanied the Ag. IGP to the House include DIG Tijani Baba, AIG AA Ilori and the Force Public Relations Officer CP Frank Mba among others.
