Speaker promises support for lawmakers as Minority leader gives items to constituents

The Speaker House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has promised continuous support for lawmakers in providing representatives democracy, to enhance the lives of Nigerians.

Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, stated this at the empowerment programme of the House Minority Leader, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, in Asaba, Delta State.

Represented by the House’s Deputy Minority Leader, Mr. Toby Okechukwu, Speaker Gbajabiamila said apart from providing job opportunities,  the programme would also reduce idleness among the beneficiaries and their immediate families.

Presenting the items, Mr. Elumelu described the project, which was part of his constituency outreach, as critical to the fight against poverty and restiveness among people especially the youth.

While reiterating his commitment and passion in the implementation of the social contract with his constituents, Mr. Elumelu pledged to join and support the State Government in bringing joy, peace and progress to its people.

“It is my belief that the empowerment of our people is a critical element in the effort to improve on their standard of living as well as to fight against poverty, restiveness and their associated criminal tendencies.

”Our people can only be happy and fulfilled when value is being added to their lives by way of providing self-sustaining incentives to boost their productivity, to at least, enable them meet their basic needs and those of their immediate relations.

”As a representative of the people in the House of Representatives, made possible by their cherished mandate, I have continued to strive towards making our people feel the impact of representative democracy, thereby putting smiles on their faces,” Mr. Elumelu stressed.

Also speaking, the State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, challenged elected officials to contribute towards reducing unemployment and poverty, through the entrenchment of good governance for the country to assume it’s rightful position in the comity of Nations.

Three hundred and fifty people benefited from the items which include; 111 Electricity Generating Sets, 90 Deep Freezers, 148 Motor Cycles and 107 Tricycles worth about N250m.
