Nigerian Government Restates Commitment to Agricultural Development

According to Nanono, the government is doing all it can to create an enabling environment for agriculture to thrive and ultimately increase food production.

The minister made this known during the 45th Annual Conference of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN), which was held at Bowen University, Osun State.

Nanono who was represented by Mr. Gbenga Awe, said, “We are trying our best through the creation of an enabling environment and giving special interventions that will boost food production and enhance the livelihood of the people.”

Deputy Governor of Osun State, Benedict Alabi, who also spoke at the event, described its theme; “Understanding Soil Organic Matter Dynamics: Key to Sustainable Ecosystem Health and Food Security,” as apt, considering the current challenges in the world.

Alabi said, “Nigeria today is faced with the challenge of climate change and the quest for a favourable ecosystem to guarantee food security.”

On his part, President of SSSN, Prof Basiru Raji disclosed that mechanisation was the only way to tackle food security and eradicate poverty.
