The Nigerian Government has submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution NDC, interim report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC.
This follows a practical demonstration of the government commitment to the Paris Agreement on global action on climate crisis.
Submitting the report on behalf of the Nigerian Government, Minister of Environment, Dr Muhammad Mahmood stated that ”Nigeria is making steady progress towards meeting its NDC.”
“This action underscores our determination to achieving the commitment we signed in 2015 to reduce Nigeria’s carbon emissions unconditionally by 20 percent and 45 percent conditionally with international support by 2030,” Dr Mahmood added.
The submission of the report is also to fulfill the requirements for competing in the 2021 Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action, NAMA Call for Proposal.
The NAMA Call for Proposal is an opportunity provided by Germany, the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and others to mobilise finance for Climate Action around the globe, mainly to finance the mitigation of measures of the NDC.
