The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has intensified its HIV response and unveiled plans for activities marking the 2026 World AIDS Week, as part of efforts to strengthen prevention, testing, awareness and support services across the state.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Obianuju Isima, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the preparations formed part of ANSACA’s monthly review meeting, during which heads of units assessed their performance for August and outlined priorities for September and the months ahead.
The review examined activities undertaken during the month, achievements recorded, challenges encountered and gaps identified across the agency’s programmes, while officials also assessed measures adopted to address outstanding issues.

Isima said the agency commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his continued support for its HIV programmes, noting that the administration’s backing had helped create an enabling environment for expanded prevention, testing, public awareness and community engagement.
As part of preparations for World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, ANSACA announced a series of activities under the theme, “Rethink, Rebuild and Rise.”
The programme will feature a press conference, HIV science symposium and research engagement, football tournament, advocacy walk, road shows and high-level advocacy visits to key stakeholders.
According to Isima, committees had also been constituted to coordinate the various activities and ensure effective planning and implementation.
She explained that the review and planning exercise reinforced the agency’s commitment to accountability, continuous programme improvement and stronger partnerships in addressing HIV and its wider public-health and social implications.
Isima further highlighted that the World AIDS Week activities would provide an opportunity to renew public awareness on HIV prevention and testing, promote access to support services and contribute to efforts to reduce stigma associated with the virus.
