Only Delegates can decide next APC Presidential Candidate- Kano Governor

The Kano State Governor Dr. Umar Ganduje says despite political palmutations, only delegates of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, can decide the next presidential flag bearer of the party in the 2023 general elections.

Ganduje stated this while answering questions from Newsmen on Monday as part of activities to mark the 2021 Democracy Day, celebrated on June 12th.

He said when the time comes only the party delegates from across all the states in the federation will decide at the national convention.

“Whatever that is being said or seen, it is only the delegates that can decided who the next Presidential candidate of our great party, APC, will be. When the time comes,we will decide,” said Ganduje.

He said the same democratic process would be replicated in Kano state, as he has no anointed candidate to take over from him come 2023 Governorship election.

“I have no candidate for the 2023  Governorship election in Kano. I do not have specific qualities for the person that will become the governor, only the party delegates can decide who will succeed me when the time comes,” the Governor explained.

On how to manage many speculated aspiring Governorship candidates in Kano, the governor said political dexterity and democratic process would be used.

“So many aspirants for governorship, House of Representatives, Senate, how do I tackle it? Well looking at the antecedents of the Governor, his politics dexterity, he too is complicated complex in politics. So time will tell. The issue will be resolved democratically,”  Ganduje said.

He said he is not ready to retire from.politics for now, even if he eventually resigns , he will be watching things that are happening.

The Governor reiterated that he is optimistic about the continuous unity of  Nigeria.

He said the effort made so far by leaders of regional and ethnic groups in Nigeria at denouncing secessionist is a signal that Nigeria will continue to stand as one and indivisible country.

He said the younger ones calling for secession do not not have the experience and impact of crisis.

He re-emphasised the need for a summit to be organised by the regional and ethnic leaders in the country, on how to manage the nation’s diversities and turn them into opportunities.
