The Anambra State Government has officially renamed the newly inaugurated Government House Mini City in Awka to “Light House Awka”, aligning with the state’s enduring slogan, “Light of the Nation.”
This decision was announced following the 10th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC).
The meeting, held at the new administrative complex. This meeting was the third to be hosted in the facility since its commissioning.
In a press statement, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the renaming as the outcome of extensive deliberations by the Executive Council on a name that would reflect both the vision and identity of the state. He quoted Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who referred to the new complex as “ a functional centre of governance.”
“After thorough consideration, ANSEC formally christened the new Government House Mini City ‘Light House Awka’—a name that captures the symbolic and functional essence of the facility,” Mefor said.
Beyond the renaming, the Council also approved a series of major capital projects and institutional reforms aimed at advancing governance and development in the state.
Key highlights include:
Establishment of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, pursuant to the recently signed Anambra State Electricity Law. The government has launched a recruitment drive for sector experts to staff the new commission.
Enforcement of the Anambra Homeland Security Law (2025), including the directive to seal and confiscate properties used as holding centers for child beggars.
Celebration of Children’s Day 2025 was reviewed, with ANSEC commending the children for their discipline during the large-scale event held at Solution Fun City.
The Commissioner also announced the award of contracts for the following infrastructural and operational projects:
1. Construction of a factory warehouse for pharmaceutical-grade kaolin at the Kaolin Plant in Ukpor.
Contractor: Strata Projects Ltd
Contract Sum: ₦190,482,467.94
