The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has intensified its enforcement operations to curb road traffic crashes and enhance public safety.

The ongoing campaign targets critical infractions, including the use of fake or non-existent number plates, the absence of speed-limiting devices, and vehicle overloading.

In a statement signed by the Sector Public Education Officer, RC Margaret B. Onabe, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, emphasized that the regulation of vehicle number plates is not only a safety issue but also a matter of national security.

“Each vehicle registration is linked to key personal information, including the owner’s name, address, and contact details. This data is vital for tracking and identifying suspects, especially as road transport often serves as the primary means of escape for criminals,” Commander Alexander said.

She further highlighted the FRSC’s commitment to leveraging its comprehensive vehicle and driver database in support of national security efforts, particularly in Anambra State, where the government has introduced robust measures to combat insecurity.

“Our mandate aligns with the Governor’s proactive stance on safety. We are determined to ensure that both drivers and commuters uphold safety standards in their road usage,” she added.

As part of its enforcement drive, the FRSC, in collaboration with sister security agencies, conducted a mobile court session in Awka where total of 38 traffic offenders were arraigned for various infractions.

Of these, 36 were convicted, while two were discharged and acquitted. The proceedings were presided over by Chief Magistrate A.N. Okoli.

The FRSC Anambra State Sector Command urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws to avoid sanctions.

The Command reaffirmed its dedication to making roads safer for both residents and visitors across the state.
