Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has emphasized the importance of discipline among the newly sworn-in members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), urging their active participation in various camp activities aimed at enhancing their developmental skills.
Governor AbdulRazaq delivered this address during the swearing-in ceremony for Batch ‘A’, Stream II Youth Corps members, at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Yikpata, located in the Edu Local Government Area. The ceremony included the administration of the “NYSC Oath of Allegiance” by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Abiodun Adebara, represented by Honourable Justice Sulaiman Mobolaji Akanbi.
In his remarks, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu, the Governor welcomed the corps members to the State of Harmony. He encouraged them to engage in various camp activities, including physical training, paramilitary drills, and citizenship and leadership training. The Governor advised the corps members to approach all orientation activities with seriousness and dedication while assuring them that the State Government would facilitate an environment conducive to their success.
The Governor urged the corps members to conduct themselves as exemplary representatives of their families, embodying the values of service and humility as enshrined in the NYSC motto. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering the well-being and safety of corps members serving in Kwara State.
The Chairman of the Kwara State NYSC Governing Board and the Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu, as represented by Dr. Mrs. Adenike Funmilola Ajide, Director of Personnel Finance and Supply, expressed appreciation for the Governor’s continuous support of the NYSC scheme within the state. She encouraged the corps members to demonstrate selfless service throughout their year of national service and to contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.
In his address, State Coordinator for the NYSC, Onifade Joshua, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his support and acknowledged the Governor’s prompt action in repairing and remodeling the camp following damage incurred from a recent rainstorm. He expressed gratitude to the corps members for their enthusiasm in undertaking the mandatory youth service year, highlighting the array of engaging activities planned for their entertainment and education while urging strict adherence to the established rules.
A total of 2,500 corps members, comprising 1,206 males and 1,294 females, were sworn in at the Yikpata camp, which included a contingent from Lagos State. The event was attended by a range of dignitaries, including the representative of the Director General of NYSC, Ogunfunwa Olayinka; Mubarak Bello, former Special Adviser on Student Affairs; the representative of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Jimoh Muhammed Tunde; the representative of the Commandant of the Nigeria Security Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), SC Babalola Sunday Stephen; and Alh. Abdulsalam Akeem, Director of Youth, Ministry of Youth Development, among others.
