President Bola Tinubu had instructed Service Chiefs to track down the perpetrators of the Yelewata killings during his visit to Benue State Capital, Makurdi.
The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, CP Ifeamyi Enemari told Journalists at a press briefing Thursday evening that the arrested suspect is currently being interrogated and has provided valuable information to aid the investigation.
He said four security personnel, including two soldiers, one NSCDC officer, and one civil protection guard, sadly lost their lives in the attack, while fighting to protect the civilian population, adding that at least one police officer was still missing.
“The incident began with an assault on a police station in Daudu, about twenty kilometres followed by a deadly raid on Yelewata Community.”
The Commissioner assured residents that security has been restored in Yelewata and surrounding areas, with deployments of mobile police units, tactical teams, and military support.
He emphasized the importance of peaceful protests and urged the public to provide information to help combat insurgency in the state.
