Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has arrived in Luanda, Angola, ahead of the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
The high-level meeting, scheduled for August 29–30, will focus on “Strengthening Mechanisms for Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Africa.”
According to the Special Assistant on Communication and New Media to the Minister, Dr. Magnus Eze, the session is expected to provide an opportunity for African leaders to strengthen preventive diplomacy, promote inclusive governance and improve coordination between the AU and Regional Economic Communities.

Eze said the summit comes amid persistent political, socioeconomic, environmental and security challenges confronting the continent, despite progress made through existing African peace and security mechanisms.
He added that Odumegwu-Ojukwu is expected to hold bilateral engagements in Luanda, meet with staff of the Nigerian Embassy and interact with members of the Nigerian community.
Vice President Kashim Shettima is also expected in Luanda on Friday to represent President Bola Tinubu at the summit.
