Civil Service Week: Islamic Ceric Cautions Against Corrupt Practices

Civil servants in Nigeria have been cautioned to shy away from corrupt practices warning that ill-gotten wealth brings destruction.

The Imam, National Mosque,Abuja Professor Khalid Aliyu made the call at the Jumma’at prayers as part of activities marking the Nigeria Civil Service Week, 2025.

He advised Civil Servants to to imbibe the culture of transparency, offering services devoid of corruption and doing things for thebenefits and overall socioeconomic development of the nation. .

“And the ill-gotten wealth will, but only destroy the worker and why he thinks he wants to move. He can’t move with that because there is no blessing in that.”

He, however, called on the government to support the civil service.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Mamman Mahmuda said without the Civil Service, there would be no meaningful development in any nation.

According to him, the Civil Service is currently implementing some reform programme, Parallel Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Programme, FCSSIP25, which is the successor of the FCSSIP20.

Transparency and accountability

He said the main thrust of digitalisation is to ensure transparency and accountability in all the processes.

“And that was why we came, we prayed that the good Allah should give us the strength for the Civil Service in Nigeria in line with the reform agenda that is being implemented service-wide so that the Civil Service can be transparent, accountable, incorruptible for us to be able to achieve the aspirations of what we want to do”.

“And once we are transparent and accountable, there is no reason why we should not be able to achieve the development objectives of the nation. So the Civil Service as it is today, is efficient, productive, and incorruptible in line with the ethical culture of the service”.

He further noted that he Civil Service is actually collaborating and partnering with international organizations and other countries to ensure global best practices.

” I mean, we are partnering with the government of UAE, we are partnering with Singapore and the UK to make sure that we learn from the best practices all over the world to make sure that the service in Nigeria is also value-oriented and result-oriented”.

The theme for the 2025 Civil Service Week is ” Leveraging Technology for a Smart and Agile Public Service.
