The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Abbas Tajudeen, and the Deputy Speaker, Mr Benjamin Kalu, have extended greetings to Nigerian Muslims as they join the world to commemorate Eid al-Maulud, marking the birth and life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In separate messages, the presiding officers urged Muslims to uphold the Prophet’s teachings and incorporate the Islamic principles he exemplified into their daily lives.
Speaker Abbas emphasised the significance of the Prophet’s birth, his teachings and the example he set for humanity, noting that ‘his legacy has relevance beyond the Muslim community.”
He called on Muslims to continue to demonstrate love, compassion and charity towards both Muslims and non-Muslims, stressing that Islamic values should guide their conduct in all spheres of life.
The Speaker wished Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
The Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu also congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the celebration, urging them to sustain prayers for peace, prosperity and progress in Nigeria.
He described Eid al-Maulud as “an important occasion for reflection on the exemplary life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, especially his virtues of humility, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.”
He encouraged Muslims to draw inspiration from these values and demonstrate them in their daily lives by showing love, kindness and understanding to one another.
Kalu urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at strengthening national unity, peace and development, noting that “the country’s progress requires the contributions and goodwill of citizens irrespective of religious, ethnic or political differences.”
The Deputy Speaker wished the Muslim faithful a joyous, peaceful, and blessed Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
Maulud is traditionally celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi’al-Awwal, which is the third month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. The date for Maulud in 2026 falls on Tuesday, August 25, as per the Gregorian calendar.
Both leaders also sent heartily congratulations to the Sultan of Sokoto,, Sa’adu Abubakar on his 70th Birthday.
The House of Reps leaders lauded the Sultan’s contributions to peace, national unity, and religious tolerance in Nigeria.
They prayed for more years in good health, strength, and divine guidance for the Sultan, and for continued peace in the Sokoto Caliphate and across Nigeria.
