Imo State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Ibrahim Ohida, said the recognition was in appreciation of Obonna’s outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the fight against drug abuse in the state.
In his acceptance speech, a visibly elated Obonna expressed gratitude to the NDLEA for the honour and thanked Governor Hope Uzodinma for creating the office of Special Adviser on Narcotics, which enabled him to contribute meaningfully to the anti-drug campaign.
“I dedicate this award to my governor for giving me the opportunity to excel, and to all NDLEA officials for their consistent cooperation in this fight,” he said.
Obonna pledged to intensify efforts toward actualising his mandate, while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to youth-focused drug prevention initiatives.
He highlighted the government’s support through the donation of Hilux vans to the NDLEA in Imo and the renovation of a rehabilitation Centre for drug users.
Obonna also issued a passionate appeal to Imo youths to shun drug abuse and illicit trafficking, warning of the devastating consequences on their health and future.
