Anambra State Government in South East Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent attack in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of 13 people.

According to reports, gunmen arrived in two SUVs on Monday during a monthly community meeting, opening fire and killing several attendees before fleeing the scene, also firing shots into the air.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, described the incident as a “dastardly act” and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

“The Anambra State Government is deeply saddened by the loss of innocent lives in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area,” Mefor said. “We unequivocally condemn this brutal attack and offer our sincere sympathies to the bereaved families.”

He emphasized that the attack was not targeted at any particular ethnic group or state, noting that preliminary investigations suggest the violence may have been sparked by an internal dispute.

The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, as the government expects a thorough police investigation and swift justice for the perpetrators.

“We assure the people of Ogboji and the entire state that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure those responsible are held accountable. We remain committed to maintaining peace and security across Anambra State,” Mefor added.
