The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Borno State Command, says it has intensified efforts to protect critical government infrastructure, schools, farmers and vulnerable communities across the state.
The State Commandant, Ahmad Bello Gaya, told Voice of Nigeria in Maiduguri that the measures were introduced in response to security threats identified after he assumed office, including attacks on and vandalism of public infrastructure.
Mr. Gaya said the command strengthened existing security structures and expanded specialised operations to prevent criminal activities.
It also established channels for residents to report suspicious activities and attempts to damage government property.

The command has strengthened its Agro Rangers operations, with personnel deployed to farming communities and vulnerable areas to protect farmers and promote peaceful relations between farmers and herders, with government support helping to improve logistics and expand these operations.
The NSCDC has also prioritised the security of educational institutions through its Save School initiative. Gaya said attacks on schools had reduced considerably in areas where adequate security measures had been introduced.
He cited an alleged attempt to vandalise electrical infrastructure along the Damaturu-Maiduguri route, which led to suspects being taken before the appropriate authorities.
The command also operates a Peace and Conflict Resolution mechanism to mediate in minor disputes involving couples, neighbours and community members.
He said cases that fall outside the Corps’ jurisdiction or cannot be resolved through mediation are referred to the appropriate authorities, including the courts.
Mr. Gaya said the NSCDC works closely with the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and other institutions through information sharing, coordinated operations and case referrals.
The commandant identified Borno’s large size, difficult terrain, forests, rivers and inaccessible rural areas as major operational challenges.
Mr Gaya appealed to residents, traditional rulers and community leaders to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information about suspicious activities and threats.
