Community Policing: 703 Special Constables graduate from Police training school

No fewer than 703 Police Special Constables on Tuesday graduated from the Police Training School, Sokoto.

Speaking at the ceremony the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, said that the Policing system was adopted to augment the shortage of manpower.

“The shortage of manpower necessitated the need to recruit about 40,000 Special Constabulary nation wide to serve as the supporting arm of the police in order to fight insurgency and other crimes,” he said.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 10, Mr Muhammad Mustapha, the IGP tasked the new Constables to ensure patriotism and proffer themselves for more training as well as service for the nation.

“You’ve all been trained and told how to secure yourselves. Safety and security are very important and all of you are expected to observe the rules of engagement.

“The task before everyone of you are enormous especially looking at what we are going through on banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and insurgency among other crimes,” he said.

The IGP further thanked the three Governors of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States for their encouragement and support to security in the zone.

He urged the general public to continue to support the security agencies with useful information that will enhance their commitment to address criminal activities in the country.

Security number one priority

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, represented by the Permanent Secretary Carrier and Security Matters, Abdulkadir Ahmed, assured that the state government will continue to place more priority on security issues.

Tambuwal congratulated the graduands and urgd them to ensure more commitment to protect their community with professionality as enshrined by the law.

The Kebbi state governor, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters Rabiu Kamba, expressed confidence that with the Community Policing in place the society will be well secured.

The Training School Commander, ACP Kabir Muhammad, said that a total of 704 participants arrived at the training school for the exercise.

“As of today, I am glad to report that, 703 are now cleared and given the IGP approval to serve as Special Constables. From the figure, Kebbi state has 336 while Sokoto has 367,” he said.

Mr. Ibrahim Kaoje, the Police Commissioner of Sokoto state, assured that the command will provide all necessary tools to the new Constables that will aid in exercising their mandate.
