The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Defence Headquarters to strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous defence production capacity.
He reaffirmed this during a strategic visit to the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Ordnance Factory (ORDFAC) in Kakuri, Kaduna.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s self-reliance in military equipment production and boost the country’s defence industrialisation drive.
During the visit, the Director-General of DICON, Major General BI Alaya, briefed the CDS on the Corporation’s manufacturing capabilities, ongoing projects and future development plans.
General Oluyede also toured key production facilities and received updates on efforts to expand local defence manufacturing and improve operational support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
The CDS further inspected DICON’s Research and Development facilities, where several indigenous defence products were showcased.
Commending the management and workforce of DICON, General Oluyede praised their dedication to advancing Nigeria’s defence technology and manufacturing capabilities.
He stressed that the Federal Government’s renewed emphasis on local defence production is critical to improving the operational readiness of the Armed Forces, reducing dependence on foreign military hardware, conserving foreign exchange and ensuring sustainable logistics support.
General Oluyede reiterated that Defence Headquarters remains fully committed to supporting DICON’s transformation into a world-class defence manufacturing institution capable of meeting the operational requirements of the Armed Forces and other security agencies.
He noted that strengthening local defence production remains a strategic priority in building a more resilient, self-sufficient and technologically advanced military.
The visit also underscored the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the leadership of General Oluyede to promoting innovation and encouraging indigenous research and development in pursuit of Nigeria’s defence industrialisation objectives.
The CDS was accompanied by the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General OT Olatoye; the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Major General ASM Wase; and other senior military officers.
