According to the News Men, although many of these devices come equipped with built-in security options, a significant number of Nigerian users either neglect to activate them or are unaware of their existence.

Mr. Daniel, who is the Chief Executive Officer of MDX Computer Services, emphasized that enabling these features not only helps deter theft but also protects sensitive information from unauthorized access in cases of loss or theft.

He noted that mobile phone theft is becoming increasingly common, and maintaining consistent security awareness is key to safeguarding personal data.

“Whether your device is stolen or misplaced, activating these security measures ensures that your information remains protected and uncompromised,” he said.

He said such features could also help in tracking and recovering missing phones and devices.

Daniel also urged improvement on the inbuilt security features, adding that they should be made user friendly by being less complex to activate.

Daniel said given the importance of smartphones and other electronic gadget in daily activities such as taking, banking, building relationships they should be adequately protection.

“Phones make our lives easier; they also contain a lot sensitive information which make these devices a target for people who might want to get their hands on our data.”

“Having a device stolen can be stressful and can result in loss of valuable and vital data which can be hard to retract.

“For some criminals, their goal is to quickly reset your stolen device and resell it. Therefore it is better to activate your phone’s anti-theft protection.

“That’s why features that can automatically recognise suspicious signals and logins should be activated to protect your data on the device,” he said.

“Regardless of the specific features your phone has, it’s crucial to enable them and also set up a tracking service such as Find My Device app.”
