Winners have begun to emerge in the by-elections held in some states in the country on Saturday.
Results began to trickle in late on Saturday and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued to announce candidates who emerged victorious, following the voting exercise which was generally peaceful.
In Ogun state, INEC declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji, as the duly elected winner of the Ikenne, Sagamu, Remo North Federal Constituency.
Announcing the final results at the INEC collation centre in Ikenne, the Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Olajide Bello, said Elegbeji polled a total of 41,237 votes to defeat her closest rival, the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 14,324 votes.

Meanwhile, in Ibadan, Oyo state, south west Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Folajimi Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the keenly contested Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, made the declaration on Saturday at the Collation Centre located in Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.
According to the results announced by INEC, Hon. Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes, defeating his closest rival, Hon. Adewale Olatunji (Murphy) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 8,312 votes.

Also in Niger state, INEC declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mathew Dogara Daje, as the winner of the by-election conducted in Munya Constituency on Saturday, August 16.
Daje won the election with a margin of over 6,000 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Sabo Sunday Adabyinlo.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Niger State House of Assembly following the death of Hon. Joseph Haruna Duza of the PDP.

Furthermore, All Progressives Congress (APC), Muktar Rabi’u, emerged winner of the Babura-Garki Federal Constituency by-elections in Jigawa State, Northwest Nigeria.
The INEC returning officer, Professor Sani Ibrahim Ismail, announced the results in the Babura local government collation centre at about 3:30 am on Sunday.
He announced that Rabi’u of the APC scored 38,449 votes to defeat his opponent, Isa Auwalu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 13,519 votes.

In Adamawa state, Northern Nigeria, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Professor Muktar Ahmed, declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Misa Musa, winner of the Ganye Constituency House of Assembly by-election.
Musa secured 15,923 votes, defeating his closest rival, Buba Muhammed Joda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 15,794 votes.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has won the Bagwai/Shanono state constituency by-election in Kano, northwestern Nigeria.
The INEC returning officer of the election, declared Ali Hassan Kiyawa of the NNPP winner with 16,198 votes, defeating Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who polled 5,347 votes.
The by-election followed the death of former APC lawmaker Halilu Ibrahim Kundila in April 2024.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged winner of the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election in Kano.
Announcing the result early on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, declared Garba Ya’u Gwarmai of the APC the winner with 31,472 votes.
He defeated the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Yusuf Ali Maigado, who polled 27,931 votes.

In Anambra state, Chief Emma Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) emerged winner of the South Senatorial District by-election.
Results announced on Sunday at the INEC office in Nnewi North Local Government Headquarters revealed that Chief Nwachukwu garnered 90,408 votes, decisively defeating his closest opponent, Chief Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 19,812 votes.

The ruling All Progressives Congress won the by-elections for the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia-Northeast-Ovia Southwest Federal Constituency held on Saturday, August 16.
According to the results read out by the returning officer for the senatorial election, Prof. Omoh Iwoze, APC’s John Ikpea scored 105,129 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Joe Okojie, who polled 15,146 votes.

Also in Kogi, north central Nigeria, Hassan Shado, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged winner of Saturday’s bye-election for the Okura Constituency.
The Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Enenche Onome, announced the results at the Egume Collation Centre.
The APC candidate polled a total of 55,073 votes, while the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) scored 1,038 and 445 votes, respectively.

More Winners Emerge
Results from Anambra state also indicate that Ifeoma Azikiwe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) emerged the winner of the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election held on Saturday, August 16.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ikwo-Ekpe of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, announced the results late Saturday evening.
Azikiwe secured the victory with a total of 7,774 votes, surpassing her closest rival, Mrs. Justina Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who garnered 1,909 votes.

More results are expected from other constituencies as collation and counting of votes continue.
Hauwa Abu
