The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Sunday evening, joined the management, coaching crew, and supporters of Kwara United Football Club to cheer the team in their hard-fought international friendly match against Ghanaian giants, Asante Kotoko, in Kumasi.

AbdulRazaq said the performance of Kwara United was encouraging and a pointer to the brighter days ahead for football in the state, stressing that the government will continue to invest in sports as a tool for youth development, unity, and tourism promotion.
“We are proud of the boys for giving a good account of themselves against a formidable opponent like Asante Kotoko,” the Governor said. “With the determination they displayed today, I am confident of a more impressive outing in the return fixture next week in Nigeria.”
Beyond moral support, the Governor also sponsored the team’s trip to Ghana and extended assistance to the Kwara State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to ensure live coverage of the match for fans back home.
This, according to him, was necessary to keep football lovers in Kwara and across Nigeria connected to the team’s international engagements.
Despite the narrow loss, the thrilling seven-goal contest drew applause from the Ghanaian crowd and Nigerian supporters present, with many describing the match as a testament to the rising profile of Kwara United.
The return leg of the clash is scheduled to be held in Ilorin next week, with expectations high that the Harmony Boys will capitalise on home advantage to secure victory.
