NCC Applauds MCSN, BON Partnership on Copyright Protection

The Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Dr. John Asein, has commended the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria Ltd/Gte (MCSN) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen copyright compliance in Nigeria’s Broadcast Industry.

The new agreement marks a major step towards promoting cooperation, transparency, and accountability in the use of musical works and sound recordings by broadcasters.

It also provides a framework for efficient licensing, fair royalty payments, and adherence to the Copyright Act 2022.

Dr. Asein described the partnership as a strong assurance for Nigeria’s creative sector, noting that “it would promote a more vibrant and sustainable entertainment ecosystem.”

He said; “the collaboration aligns with the Nigerian Government’s efforts to position the creative industry as a key contributor to national economic growth.”

Both MCSN and BON reaffirmed their commitment to lawful content use, innovation, and strengthened cooperation among stakeholders to advance Nigeria’s creative economy.
