The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado has been suspended by the Kano State House of Assembly on account of violating the public financial management law.
The suspension follows a petition received from the office of the Kano State Accountant General, read by the Speaker, Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari during the plenary on Monday.
According to Chidari, the petition alleged that the chairman of the anti-corruption agency rejected a new accounts officer posted to the Commission by the office of the Accountant General which is a clear indication of violating the rule of law.
He explained that the public financial management law gives the office of the accountant general the mandate to appoint accountants for ministries, departments and agencies across the state.
After receiving the petition, the lawmakers urged the Kano State House of Assembly to take appropriate action by suspending the chairman of the Commission for one month to enable the house committee on the public petition as well as other Adhoc committees to conduct an investigation.
Members representing Warawa, Sumaila, Rogo, Kiru, Gwarzo and Bagwai were in the opinion that, the suspension of the anti-corruption boss will give the committee the privilege to conduct the investigation successfully.
The house unanimously agreed to suspend Barrister Muhyi for one month while members of the public petition committee, anti-corruption committee and the public accounts committee were asked to investigate and report to the house within two weeks for appropriate action.
