The Lagos State Government in Southwest Nigeria says it is working to harmonise taxes, eliminate redundant charges, streamline payment systems, and create an enabling environment that is simple, predictable, and fair for businesses.

At the celebration of the “Lagos Special Day” and the closing ceremony of the 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair, the Governor of the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also reiterated his government’s commitment to streamlining regulatory processes, creating one-stop digital platforms for business registration, licensing, and approvals, thereby reducing time and cost for entrepreneurs.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, further highlighted some other strategies lined up to impact the growth of businesses in the state.

While acknowledging challenges confronting the state, the Govenror said, “We recognise that our work is far from done. The global business landscape is changing rapidly, new trade zones are emerging, technology is reshaping markets, and competition grows fiercer every day. To stay ahead, we must deepen and accelerate our efforts.”

He however emphasised that progress is never measured only in infrastructure, policies, or statistics, but its true measure lies in the impact on human lives.

The President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Gabriel Idahosa commended the Lagos State Government for its support for the success of the fair and its commitment towards creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Idahosa called on other governments at all levels to address the issues of creating an enabling environment in the country, especially regarding infrastructure, security, and implementing the right policies to address the key drivers of high inflation.

According to him, “We need to do this to fully harness the vast enterprising resources of domestic and foreign investors for the diversification of our economy and the welfare of our people.”

The 10-day 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair, which had participants from several African and other foreign countries, took place between the 7th and 16th of November under the theme Connecting Businesses, Creating Value.”
