Old students of the Federal Government College (FGC) Jos have gathered in Minna, the Niger State capital, for their 20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and National Convention, an event highlighted by the election of new leaders and a renewed commitment to advancing the college’s growth.

At the convention, Mr. Victor Osagie Odeh, an alumnus of the 1986 set, was elected National President.

Odeh described the mandate as ‘a privilege and pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessors’.

He said his administration would focus on enhancing the association’s visibility, supporting young alumni in their careers, and improving fundraising strategies with input from financial experts and former executives.

Ode also encouraged greater contributions from individual class sets.

Unity will remain a top priority,” Odeh said, stressing that “FGC Jos has always functioned as a family where members support each other through mentorship, job opportunities and business networks.”

Outgoing President, Onyekachi Onubogu, highlighted key achievements during his four-year tenure, including the renovation of hostels, basketball courts and the football pitch; the donation of 60 computers; installation of 20 solar streetlights; and the establishment of mentorship and award programmes for outstanding students.

Onubogu also commended the school for producing notable Nigerians, including Niger State Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, of the 1991 set.

The Principal of FGC Jos, Obomate Dulehina lauded the alumni for their continued support, noting that “their contributions have motivated students to excel and inspired the school community to aim higher.”

Newly elected Secretary-General, Hauwa Noroh Ali, pledged to work closely with the executive team to strengthen unity across chapters nationwide.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Abdul Aziz Sani, described the election as peaceful, transparent, and fully compliant with the association’s regulations, confirming that all 205 registered delegates cast valid votes.

Beyond formal proceedings, alumni celebrated at a colourful dinner with music, food, and shared memories. Awards were presented to distinguished members, including Governor Bago, for their contributions to the school and the association.

With the theme “FGC Jos: The Foundation of Excellence,” the 2025 AGM ended with members reaffirming their commitment to supporting the school, promoting unity, and contributing to national development.
