President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In a condolence message issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Awolowo’s demise as “unfortunate and a tragic loss not only to the Awolowo family, but also to the entire country.”

The President noted that the late Segun Awolowo distinguished himself as a worthy scion of the illustrious Awolowo lineage.

Segun exemplified the Awolowo pedigree in appearance, character, and demeanour. Like his grandfather, he was a lawyer committed to defending truth and justice,” he said.

Highlighting his contributions to national development, President Tinubu recalled Awolowo’s service as the Executive Director of the NEPC from 2013 to 2021, where he became the longest-serving chief executive in the agency’s history.

The President condoled with Awolowo’s wife, children, and mother, Sisi Abah Folawiyo, as well as the government and people of Ogun State, the South-West geopolitical zone, and the entire nation.

Segun Awolowo, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), died at the age of 62.
