The Nigerian Army has reinforced its operational partnership with the Taraba State Government as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, declared a strong alliance aimed at intensifying the fight against terrorism and insecurity across the state.
The declaration followed a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters by the Governor of Taraba State, Colonel Agbu Kefas (rtd), alongside federal lawmakers and members of the Executive Council of the International Institute for African Ispense Security and Governance.
General Shaibu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s constitutional mandate to support civil authorities in the maintenance of peace and security, describing Taraba State as strategically significant due to its terrain and security dynamics.
The Army Chief commended Governor Kefas for decisive leadership and effective coordination with security agencies.
He noted that the donation of land and provision of operational equipment by the state government have served as critical force multipliers that significantly enhanced the tempo, reach and effectiveness of military operations.
Emphasising the importance of civil-military collaboration, the COAS appealed for continued partnership, specifically requesting support for stable electricity supply to 20 Model Battalion, Sarti, and 23 Battalion, stressing that improved power supply would directly boost operational efficiency, combat readiness and troop welfare.
He also called for intensified public sensitisation across Taraba State, urging citizens to support security operations through timely and credible intelligence, noting that community cooperation remains decisive in defeating terrorists and criminal elements.
In response, Governor Kefas described the visit as a demonstration of Taraba State’s unwavering solidarity with the Nigerian Army.
He congratulated Lieutenant General Shaibu on his appointment and praised the professionalism, resilience and sacrifices of Nigerian Army personnel, noting that their sustained presence has resulted in measurable improvements in the state’s security environment.
The Governor further applauded strong inter-agency cooperation among security agencies operating in the state, highlighted areas requiring reinforced military presence.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Taraba State Government to deepening support for the Nigerian Army, including assistance with accommodation for deployed troops, as both parties restated their resolve to sustain a united front against insecurity.
