Ondo State is set to commemorate its Golden Jubilee with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa highlighting the state’s achievements over the past five decades and outlining a vision for sustainable growth and development.

Addressing a press conference at the Government House in Akure, Ondo State capital. Aiyedatiwa said individuals who played key roles in the state’s creation under former Head of State General Murtala Mohammed on February 3, 1976, would be honoured during the anniversary celebrations.

As we commemorate fifty years, our gaze is firmly fixed on the future. The next half-century must be defined by knowledge-driven growth, industrial competitiveness, environmental sustainability, digital innovation, and strong democratic institutions.
“We are laying the groundwork today for a State that will not merely respond to change, but shape it: a State where opportunity is inclusive and prosperity is sustainable.
“The Golden Jubilee of Ondo State is a collective heritage and a shared responsibility. It belongs to every citizen, young and old, at home and in the diaspora. I, therefore, call on all stakeholders to join hands with the government in making this anniversary a celebration of meaning, memory and momentum.
“As we honour the sacrifices of yesterday, celebrate the achievements of today and envision the possibilities of tomorrow, let us reaffirm our faith in the Ondo project. Together, we shall continue to build a State that guarantees fulfilment for everyone,” the Governor said.
The governor paid tribute to the founding leaders of the state, including Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Basorun Sehinde Arogbofa, and acknowledged the contributions of past military and civilian administrations to the state’s development.
Aiyedatiwa said ongoing projects aimed at strengthening the economy include plans for a deep seaport, petrochemical industries and urban renewal initiatives.
He said that efforts are being made to improve the electricity supply through collaboration with distribution companies and the rollout of O’datiwa meters.
Activities lined up for the anniversary include interfaith services, a lecture series, cultural exhibitions and an awards gala.
