Former National Acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Baraje has called on Government to give traditional rulers more roles to play in the fight against insecurity.

Baraje spoke with journalists at the sidelines of a special prayer organised by his friends and families to mark his 75th birthday in Ilorin, Kwara State, North Central, Nigeria.

According to him, security should be in the hands of the people and monarchs.

“But we are not getting the best from the traditional rulers with their vast experiences,” he said.

Baraje said that the country would surmount its economic and security challenges only when the citizens learn to elect leaders whose policies take cognisance of their welfare.

He advised that policies should be in tune with the expectations and welfare of Nigerians.

At the prayer session, Muslim clerics and some associates of Baraje, took turns to extol his virtues of humility, generosity and trustworthiness.
