Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has launched the distribution of Ramadan palliative food packages to 70,000 beneficiaries across the state.

This, he said reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable residents during the holy month.

Speaking at the official launch of the 2026 Ramadan Palliative Food Distribution Programme in Gombe, the governor said the annual intervention, which has been sustained since he assumed office in 2019, was designed to ensure that no resident is left behind during the fasting period.

This programme is a deliberate effort to uplift the weak, the needy and the vulnerable among us,” he said. “Ramadan reminds us that governance must touch lives directly and meaningfully,” said Governor Yahaya.

According to him, this year’s initiative will benefit 70,000 people, including the physically challenged, religious organisations, orphanages, party support groups and other disadvantaged members of the community.

He explained that the distribution formed part of a broader package of social interventions introduced by his administration to cushion economic hardship and improve living standards.

These include food support schemes, community empowerment initiatives and humanitarian assistance programmes.

Governor Yahaya emphasised that the programme was not merely a governmental activity, but a reflection of shared societal values rooted in faith and compassion.

Prosperity is meaningful only when it is shared,” he said, urging residents to embrace the spirit of generosity and unity that defines Ramadan.

To guarantee transparency and accountability, the governor disclosed that a Palliative Distribution Committee had been constituted to oversee the exercise across the state, charging members of the committee to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and fairness to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need.

The Gombe State Governor also called on philanthropists, corporate organisations, religious bodies and development partners to complement government efforts by extending support to vulnerable groups during the period.

In a message of interfaith harmony, Governor Yahaya noted that this year’s Ramadan coincides with the Christian Lenten season, describing the overlap as a reminder of shared values such as self-discipline, sacrifice and love for humanity.

He urged citizens of all faiths to promote peace, tolerance and mutual respect, further
appealing to residents to remember the nation in their prayers and to support the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as it pursues reforms aimed at stabilising the country.

The Gombe State Governor also gave the assurances of his administration’s continued dedication to policies and programmes that reduce hardship, promote inclusion and restore hope across communities in Nigeria.
