A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has pledged to restore Kano’s once-thriving state-owned enterprises as part of efforts to reposition the state economically ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a Sallah visit in Kano, Obi said his vision is to rebuild the state’s industrial strength by reviving key moribund facilities across major industrial hubs.

He said, “We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano.”

The former Anambra State governor specifically mentioned the industrial layouts in Bompai and Sharada, as well as the defunct Bank of the North, noting that he has plans to bring them back to life.

“All those factories in Bompai, in Sharada 1, in Sharada 2, and the Bank of the North—we want to bring all of them back,” he said.

Obi, however, stressed that his visit was not politically motivated but aimed at celebrating the Sallah festivities with the people and paying homage to local leaders.

Today is not about politics; it is about the celebration of Sallah,” he added, while offering prayers for peace and prosperity.

He assured residents that restoring Kano’s economic vitality remains central to his agenda, emphasising the need to “bring back the power of Kano” through industrial and economic revival.

The Sallah homage at the residence of the former governor of Kano State and former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso brought together key political figures.
