The Nigerian Navy has sustained its operational momentum under Operation DELTA SENTINEL with the interception of about 15,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Rivers State.

The interception was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER following credible intelligence on illegal oil bunkering activities within its Area of Operations.

The naval team was subsequently deployed to the Abua-Odual and Ogbologo general areas, where the illicit products were being transported.

The Anti-Crude Oil Theft patrol team intercepted two wooden boats laden with the suspected illegally refined AGO during the operation. The swift response of the operatives disrupted the illegal movement of petroleum products within the creeks.

In a statement, Director of Information, Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, revealed that the suspected perpetrators fled upon sighting the naval patrol team, abandoning both the boats and their cargo in a bid to evade arrest.

He added, “The intercepted boats and petroleum products were secured and handled in accordance with established operational procedures, ensuring proper documentation and disposal in line with naval regulations.”

The successful operation, according to the Navy, underscores its unwavering commitment to curbing illegal oil bunkering. It also aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to intensify intelligence-driven operations, as the Service continues to sustain the tempo of Operation DELTA SENTINEL in safeguarding Nigeria’s oil infrastructure and economic interests.
