Police in Kano State have distributed over N8.4 million in financial support to families of deceased and injured officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day celebration.

The cheques, totalling N8,431,768.80, were presented to 18 next of kin and one serving police officer under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personnel Accident, and Inspector-General of Police Welfare Scheme.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the initiative reflects the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening the welfare and support system for officers and their families.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who presented the cheques, said the gesture underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to caring for personnel affected by injury, accidents, or death in the line of duty.

The beneficiaries include families of officers who lost their lives while serving, as well as those who sustained injuries or were involved in accidents.

CP Bakori urged recipients to make prudent use of the funds while offering prayers for the repose of the fallen officers.

The recipients expressed appreciation to the police leadership for the timely intervention, noting that the support would go a long way in addressing their immediate needs.

The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to both public service and the welfare of its personnel, emphasising that the initiative remains a key component of ongoing reforms within the force.
