Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria, has said the Federal Government has given the state verbal approval for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Oyo/Iseyin Road.
Makinde stated this, on Thursday, during a stakeholders consultative meeting on year 2022 Budget, held at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, the state capital.
The Governor promised to flag-off the road immediately after the necessary documents have been signed by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
He stated: “We are hell bent on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Oyo-Iseyin Road, even though it is a federal road. Why? Because we are investing a lot of money in the Fashola Farm Estate, if we don’t fix that road all of that money would go into waste. I am happy to report that the Minister is gracious to have given his verbal go-ahead and he said ‘come with the document and we will sign it for you.'”
Speaking on the budget performance of the state, Makinde said his administration would improve the state’s revenue performance, before the end of 2021, through it’s Internally Generated Revenue against the previous 60% growth in budget.
The Governor stated that his administration has been able to reach all the geo-political zones in all areas of development in the state, as over 500 educational and infrastructural projects had been completed so far.
Also at the meeting, Governor Makinde disclosed that seven members of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, met their untimely death while on active duty to ensure that every nook and cranny of the state is secured.
While announcing payment of N2.5 million to the families of each of the deceased, Makinde promised to give scholarships to the children and assist the respective families in areas needed, adding that the deceased would not die in vain.
He assured the people of the state that his government would continue to deploy state resources in ensuring that the state is secured, adding that the security architecture of the state remains paramount to his administration.
