President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate design, procurement and commencement of work on the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Okigwe Junction Road and the Otuocha–Anam–Ibaji Road to improve connectivity and economic activities across the South-East.
The approval was disclosed in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-East), Chioma Nweze.
Nweze said the projects reflected the Nigerian Government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs in the region and improving connectivity among communities that had long awaited federal intervention.

She described the roads as vital economic corridors that would ease the movement of people and goods, strengthen trade and create new economic opportunities along the routes.
Nweze also commended the Minister of Works, Chief David Nweze Umahi, for what she described as his commitment to delivering quality federal road infrastructure across the South-East.
The presidential aide noted that the approval complemented ongoing federal infrastructure interventions in the region, including the rehabilitation of the First Niger Bridge linking Onitsha in Anambra State and Asaba in Delta State.
She explained that the bridge rehabilitation works addressed structural defects and damaged components, including the replacement and securing of vandalised bolts and nuts, installation of a specialised expansion joint and other measures aimed at improving safety and durability.

According to Nweze, the latest road approvals further demonstrate that the Renewed Hope Agenda is translating into infrastructure projects with direct impact on communities.
She expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works for the interventions, noting that the projects would strengthen connectivity, facilitate trade and support economic activities across the South-East.
The two road projects are expected to improve regional links and provide more efficient movement between communities in the South-East and neighbouring parts of the country.
