The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied being in any alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Addressing journalists at the party’s National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the party deemed it necessary to respond to what he described as “misleading narratives and deliberate falsehood” surrounding a social gathering scheduled to hold in Ibadan under the guise of an alliance between the PDP and the APM.
According to him, the PDP is not part of any alliance, coalition, agreement, or political arrangement with the APM or any other political party regarding the gathering or any related political activity.
He stressed that any individual or group claiming to be acting on behalf of the PDP in connection with the event was doing so without the knowledge, approval, or consent of the party.
The PDP spokesman alleged that what was being presented to Nigerians as a political alliance was merely “another desperate attempt by some politicians to mislead the public and manufacture a false impression of political relevance and support.”
He further accused the politicians of attempting to camouflage their political intentions through false claims of alliances and consultations.
“Nigerians can now clearly see that today’s gathering in Ibadan is simply a public celebration of movements of some individuals to the APM and nothing more,” he said.
Mohammed also accused some group of people and their associates of sponsoring media attacks and propaganda aimed at distorting and misrepresenting the Supreme Court judgment in order to create confusion within the party and among Nigerians.
He, however, maintained that PDP members and Nigerians had refused to follow what he described as “a journey of political deception and personal ambition.”
According to him, the large number of aspirants who recently visited Wadata Plaza to obtain and submit nomination forms reaffirmed confidence in the leadership and structure of the PDP under Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
“The truth remains that propaganda and falsehood have an expiry date. No amount of media manipulation can substitute for political legitimacy and public trust,” he stated.
