Governor Makinde Declares Presidential Ambition, Forms Alliance with APM

By Olubunmi Osoteku, Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, declared his presidential ambition on Wednesday at a grand unity rally between his faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The carnival-like rally, held at the ancient Mapo Hall, was attended by officials of both the PDP and the APM.

The declaration followed the earlier signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the PDP and the APM at a brief ceremony held at the PDP Southwest Zonal Secretariat on Old Ife Road, Ibadan.

Makinde said that under the new arrangement, the alliance would field candidates for all elective positions, from the presidency to the state Houses of Assembly.

The Governor called on leaders and prominent figures in opposition political parties to emulate the PDP/APM by pursuing the plan of remaining united and focused ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stated: “We must trace our steps to understand how we arrived here. They calculated and said the opposition cannot unite but I am here today to say that is a miscalculation. The opposition party in Nigeria remains resolute to present alternative choices. This is the time to confront our fears because if your mourning endures for a night, joy comes in the morning. We must engage.”

Makinde announced that the alliance between PDP and APM has birthed the reset of a new Nigeria and the beginning of the first in the series of the unity of the opposition parties in Nigeria.

“Therefore, today, I, Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of President of Nigeria under the platform of the PDP-APM.

“I congratulate all of you here that history is happening in your presence,” the Governor declared.
