Deadly 5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Southwest China

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake has struck China’s Guangxi region, killing two people and forcing more than 7,000 residents in Liuzhou to evacuate, as rescue operations continue and authorities warn of possible transport disruptions.

State broadcaster CCTV and state news agency Xinhua reported that two deaths had been confirmed, one person remained missing, and four others were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.

CCTV also reported that 13 buildings collapsed following the quake, which struck in the early hours of Monday.

Railway authorities warned of possible transportation disruptions while inspections of rail infrastructure were underway.

According to state media, communication and power lines, as well as water, gas supply, and traffic operations in the affected area, were functioning normally.
